Norwegian Aqua

Making Waves as Norwegian Cruise Line’s First Female Hull Artist

The Norwegian Aqua project was a deeply powerful milestone in my practice. As the ship's first female hull artist, I created a design titled Where the Sky Meets the Sea, inspired by quiet moments spent sitting on the beach near my home in Alameda, watching the ferry drift across the horizon line. That liminal space–where air meets water–became the foundation of the piece, blending elements of sky and sea into a fluid, expansive visual language. At the heart of the design is Amphitrite, the Greek goddess and queen of the sea, summoned as a protective force to guide and watch over the ship on its journeys. When submitting for this project, I was almost nine months pregnant, and by the time my water broke, I had already poured my entire creative being into the work. I like to believe that in bringing this design to life, I was harnessing the full creative potential of my body, birthing both art and life simultaneously.
